Need a 3D Part Fast? Discover Our Bureau Service!
Save Money & Time with our 3D Parts & Prototyping Services
When it comes to rapid manufacturing, we’ve got all the solutions.
Our Laser Lines’ Bureau Service offers the latest 3D technology with the largest range of Stratasys printers and FDM materials available in the UK. All we need is a CAD model to bring your designs to life.
Helping customers build hundreds of different applications each year, rapid manufacturing can be a cost-effective alternative to traditional tooling methods as well as offering a fast turn around for designers wanting to build prototypes and low-volume end use parts.
With 40 years experience in 3D printing, Laser Lines established its Bureau service 10 years ago. Sales manager, David Price, who runs our Bureau service, explains what it’s like being at the printing helm:
What kind of Parts do you print?
Everything and anything. Our top three applications are for: prototype parts, low volume production runs and jigs and fixtures applications. Currently we have a major project building high volume parts for an aerospace company using ULTEM 9085, a flame-retardant, high performance FDM thermoplastic. But some days we could be printing a one-off conceptual piece for an individual running their own design service.
What’s the strangest thing?
The applications are so varied. Unfortunately some of the most interesting ones are under Non-Disclosure Agreements. Although we did recently print 150 miniature figurines in ABS for the London Science Museum which was a fun project.
What are the benefits of using a Bureau service?
Many customers want to try before they buy a 3D printer. We offer a consultative process where we can help them work out exactly what machines would be best for their applications in terms of materials and size. They can use our Bureau to verify their application, start buying parts and we can help them identify if there is a financial advantage to be gained by buying their own machine.
We can offer all 12 materials in FDM. If a customer wants to experiment with a new material, rather than spend, for example £120k on a machine to see if the application will work, they can spend just a few hundreds pounds and get their answer without paying out large sums of capital expenditure.
By using our Bureau service, we can also pinpoint two to three machines that would service the customer’s needs. By analysing what sort of parts they are buying, what size and in what volumes, we can advise them on the best 3D printer to buy. On those that do invest on our advice, 80-90 percent of our customers will see a return on their investment in under 12 months. With that kind of success – it’s not a hard sell.
What 3D technologies do you offer?
We have 20 machines in our Bureau – the largest range of Stratasys 3D printers in the country. We can offer all solutions and large build sizes, but the main demand is for Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and Polyjet 3D printers.
How quick can you turn things round?
The average turn around is between three to six days. But we can move faster if need be. We had a local customer recently who wanted three PolyJet parts. We quoted at 9.30am, they placed the order at 10am and we delivered the parts to them by 2.30pm the same day.
Do you have a favourite machine?
The Stratasys Fortus 400 and their latest model, the Fortus 450mc, offer the largest build sizes we have in-house and we would go to these machines purely for the materials they offer. They give us a lot of flexibility, as do the two Titan systems we have.
