COST-EFFECTIVE, INDUSTRIAL-SCALE 3D PRINTING

Selective Absorption Fusion (SAF) 3D printers use a counter-rotating roller to coat powder layers onto a print bed where high energy-absorption HAF fluid is selectively jetted to image the part layers. Industrial piezo-electric print heads jet single or multiple droplets of fluid according to the part requirement for fine detail or large areas. Using infrared energy radiated from an IR lamp, the imaged layers and underlying particles are fused across the span of the print-bed.

SAF 3D printing highlights

Having key process steps in the same direction across the print bed provides uniform thermal control, thereby avoiding warping and quality issues.

Peak temperatures are reduced, making the SAF technology highly suitable for production purposes as part consistency is uniform for all printed parts, regardless of their placement in the build.

Powder overflow is recirculated, reducing the need for fresh powder and lowering operational costs as well as resulting in minimal powder thermal exposure and powder ageing.

Key benefits

  • SAF 3D printers can deliver a competitive cost per part at production level throughput
  • Part quality, consistency and reliability is high, with a high production yield.
  • Recirculating overflow powder means that less fresh powder is needed, resulting in and lower operational costs.
  • Tight thermal control avoids warping, quality fall-out, and reduces peak temperatures required in the bed, making SAF technology ideal for production.
