SLM Solutions Opens Metal 3D Printing Demo Centre
Laser Lines customers can now experience at first hand the industrial manufacturing revolution being driven by metal-based 3D printing.
After a year of unprecedented growth, our 3D printing partners SLM Solutions have opened a new Applications and Demonstrations Centre in Lübeck, Germany, as a showcase destination for our customers wanting to see and test the full range of their machines.

Our sales director, Mark Tyrtania, was there for the opening and admits he was blown away by the €5m centre where the entrance has been designed to resemble the insides of their flagship system, the impressive SLM 500 HL.
I am very excited by how much SLM are expanding. They are investing for the future and this new demo centre is a superb environment, with lots of kit and printed examples, that will be a showcase destination to take our customers to.
The set up of the machines was very clean and professional. All the machines were running to provide technical presentations, demonstrations, benchmark testing and customer training. It was very impressive and set up purely to meet the ever increasing demands of our customers which is to make specific sample parts faster.Mark Tyrtania
The centre houses the full SLM range, which uses selective laser melting technology by firing a laser at a bed of metal powder and selectively melting the fine layers to produce highly accurate parts, directly from CAD data.
The demand for metal-based 3D printing solutions has seen exponential growth as SLM Solutions recently reported their new order intake up 138 per cent to 62 machines compared to 26 the previous year, significantly exceeding their original expectations of 40 to 50 machines. And already from 2015 Q1 figures the trend is continuing with 17 machines being ordered, more than twice than last year (7 machines). This includes the first SLM Solutions printer to be sold in the UK, bought by Birmingham University as part of their £80m Quantum Technology Programme.
Our new demo centre for SLM technology is an important building block for SLM Solutions’ development and growth. With it, we are underscoring the high demands that we make of ourselves: we aim to remain the leading provider in the metal-based additive manufacturing area for the foreseeable future, through research and development, international customer service and in-depth market knowledge. Day-by-day, we are going to continue to pursue this vision with enthusiasm in 2015.Dr. Markus Rechlin, CEO of SLM Solutions
