Secure your AM operation with GrabCAD Streamline Pro
Innovators in aerospace and defence are increasingly turning to additive manufacturing, both to build scale models for test, and to produce end-use parts for aircraft, land craft and ships. Working in this area calls for a high degree of security – and the same is true for many commercial users, as car manufacturers and designers of white and brown goods see the benefit of 3D printing throughout the development cycle.
This makes 3D data a valuable, sensitive and, in some cases, a highly sought-after asset. Securing the production cycle, from design right through to output, isn’t just common sense: it’s essential. And now, it’s easier to manage.
Security through design
When Stratasys started shipping GrabCAD Streamline Pro in April this year, security – and cybersecurity in particular – was a major point of focus. As a hub for six key additive manufacturing applications, Streamline Pro is designed to help protect enrolled printers against local and remote interference, while allowing managers to keep them patched and updated.
Much of this is done through GrabCAD Control, one of Streamline Pro’s component applications, which also enables full management of software licences and printer material, and at-a-glance printer status updates.
Streamline Pro is built around a dashboard which, as well as giving access to a full array of controls, can issue alerts when a process ends, or a machine needs attention. And, by monitoring material supply levels in real time, it can help print shop administrators to ensure they always have sufficient stock to meet deadlines – however short they may be.
The latest release marks a significant shift in the way that Stratasys is shipping its print management software, with each of the components bundled as part of an umbrella suite for the end-to-end management of the 3D printing operation. For the end user, this significantly simplifies the task of deployment.
Comprehensive printer support
Streamline Pro supports both FDM, polyjet, SAF and Origin Two printers and runs almost entirely on-site, so can be installed behind the corporate firewall.
There’s no limit to the number of users that can access an installed edition of Streamline Pro, as licences are issued per-device, rather than per user. Subscriptions cost a flat £1,610 per year per Stratasys printer, and the suite can also be used to manage partner applications where they surface relevant data via a compatible API.
Organisations may be able to offset much of the annual licence cost through efficiencies and savings. For example, the suite can save time by automatically producing estimates and quotes and can both protect printers against network vulnerabilities and prevent unauthorised access to enrolled printers, which in turn can help reduce material waste through running unauthorised jobs.
