Laser Lines inspires next generation at local school’s STEAM event

As the UK’s leading reseller of 3D printers and 3D scanners, we are passionate about engineering at Laser Lines. Nothing excites us more than when we get the chance to meet the next generation of potential engineers.

We look to partner with exceptional companies and institutions that share our passion, and recently we had the opportunity to work with one of the best. The Webber Independent School is dedicated to becoming the leading modern educator in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) in Milton Keynes, so when we were asked to attend its recent STEAM Fayre, naturally we jumped at the chance.

Full STEAM ahead

The event was an opportunity for students aged between 4 to 18 to meet a variety of specialists in their fields, represented by a cross-section of STEAM disciplines. We joined the likes of Network Rail, Amey, The Institute of Chemical Engineers and Lego to explain the rewarding nature of design and engineering, along with the benefits that 3D printing can bring.

Laser Lines STEAMMatthew Paris, Director of Studies at The Webber Independent School, says: “The STEAM Fayre was our largest event to date. Everything was aimed at showing young people just how many exciting and rewarding opportunities there are out there for them, given the right experience and qualifications.

“At its heart, the Fayre was about careers and futures, highlighting the exciting possibilities that exist for young people with STEAM backgrounds. Our young people went away with a fresh perspective on where their school subjects can lead them.”

Dan Curtis from the Design Engineering Group at Laser Lines, says: “The Makerbot machines that we sell and support are ideal for the education market. They are very easy to use, the materials are affordable and there are plenty of designs available to download free if you need them. Makerbot even produces its own lesson plans to help teachers get started.”

Jane Gibbons, Product Specialist at Laser Lines, adds: “It was wonderful meeting all the students at the STEAM Fayre, demonstrating the products and sparking the imagination of a new generation. I hope it inspires a few of them to choose a career in design and engineering in years to come!”
