Desktop Metal Studio System™ 2

The Studio System 2 is the next-generation solution for the low-volume production of Metal parts from Desktop Metal. The Studio 2 offers the easiest way to reliably print complex, high-quality parts within a non-shop floor environment – no third party equipment or special facilities required.

User’s do not need to manage a complex workflow, just print and sinter with the Studio System 2’s new two-step process. New print profiles, heated build chamber, and updated print heads deliver smooth support-facing surfaces and reduce stair stepping for excellent side wall surface finish. Plus, all of the benefits of the original Studio System: quick material changes, standard & high-resolution printhead options, software-controlled workflow, Separable Supports technology.

Easy 2 Step process for producing high-quality parts

  • No solvent debind phase means no solvent and no Debinder
  • Fewer pieces of hardware, results in an easier installation and a smaller overall footprint.
  • Expanded geometric capabilities (enables parts previously not possible)
  • Gyroid infill creates parts with the strength required for end-use applications
  • The Studio System 2 was designed from the ground-up to fit into your team’s workflow in a non-specialist facility. With no solvents, no loose metal powders or lasers and very little operator intervention required, the system makes it easy to start printing metal parts.
  • Unlike laser-based systems that selectively melt metal powder, the Studio System extrudes bound metal rods—similar to how an FDM printer works

User-friendly hardware

With easy-to-use hardware, the Studio System 2 allows you to spend less time managing equipment and more time designing and printing parts. Now you can change print heads with the press of a button – materials can be changed quickly too.  The refillable cartridge system allows users to easily load material during print jobs and store excess material safely. A fully-accessible printer and sintering volume and a configurable furnace retort allow for maximum flexibility.

Software controlled workflow

You don’t need to be an expert metallurgist or machinist to create complex metal parts. With the Fabricate software, native to Studio System 2, all aspects of part creation from printing through sintering are automated. The software automatically scales your part, orients it for print and sintering success, generates separable supports, and applies expert metallurgy to optimize fabrication. Simply upload your design and follow the on-board user interface for step-by-step guidance.
