Desktop Metal Shop System

The Shop System is the world’s first metal binder jetting system designed for machine shops. It is powerful enough to produce one batch of parts every six to ten hours, printing up to 70kg of steel every day. It will help save you money by removing tooling costs, speeding up production and freeing up CNC machine capacity for other jobs. The quality of the printed parts is very high, enabling them to co-exist with parts produced through machining. With a resolution of 1600 dpi, the Shop System achieves superior surface finish and rich feature detail at high speed.

Three-part system

The Desktop Metal Shop System consists of three parts: the printer, powder station and furnace. In the printer, the machine spreads metal powder across the bed and jets a binding agent to bond it together, layer by layer. In a short space of time, the whole build volume is filled with bound parts surrounded by loose powder.

Once the build is finished, it is placed into the powder station for depowdering, helped by a handheld air pick. Loose powder is recovered for recycling.

After that, the depowdered parts are put into the furnace for sintering. An external gas hook-up means temperatures reach 1,400 degrees Celsius, making the final part reliable and smooth.
