The Artiphon Instrument 1 musical interface

Artiphon has designed a new modern musical instrument that works with mobile applications. The INSTRUMENT 1 utilises both traditional instrument manufacturing methods along with the latest in 3D printing technology processes. INSTRUMENT 1 allows an iPhone or iPod to dock in the centre giving musicians access to various functions like multiple sounds, synthesis & multi-track recording.

Artiphon designed five different plastic parts for concept models built with FDM technology. 3D printing was chosen over injection moulding for prototypes so that they could speed up the design iteration phase and reduce the lead time to market of an ever changing evolution of mobile devices.

By using a FDM service bureau Artiphon has been able to test and evaluate many design iterations in a production ready material. INSTRUMENT 1 offers musicians a traditional musical instrument mixed with cutting edge technology.
